Jim Dixon
Jim Dixon, a seasoned baseball professional and passionate mentor, is the founder and owner of Next Level Baseball Academy. A Raton High School standout, Jim led his team to a state championship as a pitcher, showcasing his talent and love for the game early on. He continued his career at Trinidad Junior College (1991-1992), where he played in the Junior College World Series.
In 1992, Jim was drafted as a pitcher by the Colorado Rockies but chose to further his education and career at New Mexico State University (1992-1993). As a Division 1 athlete, he was recognized as a Big West pitcher, solidifying his reputation as an elite player.
In 1993, Jim signed with the Chicago White Sox, beginning a five-year professional career. During his tenure, he set a consecutive strikeout record and held the lowest ERA (1.96) in the Carolina League—a testament to his dominance on the mound.
Beyond his achievements in baseball, Jim has been married for 27 years and is the proud father of six children. His legacy continues through his oldest son, who is currently playing at New Mexico Junior College.
Jim’s vision for Next Level Baseball Academy is rooted in his desire to provide New Mexico players with the development and opportunities to excel at the collegiate and professional levels. With decades of experience and a heart for mentoring young athletes, Jim is dedicated to shaping the future of baseball in New Mexico and beyond.
Pitching Expert
Javier Herrera
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Javier Herrera began his professional baseball career at just 16 years old, signing as an international free agent outfielder with the Oakland Athletics. Over the course of an impressive 18-year pro career, Javier played with the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants organizations.
Throughout his playing career, Javier was recognized as an All-Star in 2004, 2005, and 2013. He was also honored as a Futures All-Star and recognized as a 5-tool player, showcasing elite ability in hitting, power, speed, fielding, and arm strength.
Following his playing career, Javier spent two years coaching with the Oakland Athletics, bringing his experience and passion for player development to the next generation.
At Next Level Baseball Academy, Javier brings a wealth of knowledge from the highest levels of professional baseball to our youth program. His focus on fundamentals, skill development, and mental toughness helps young athletes grow both on and off the field. Javier is dedicated to teaching the game the right way and preparing players to reach their full potential.
Off the field, Javier has been married for 20 years and is a proud father of two children. His love for family and baseball continues to inspire everyone he works with.

Luke Hopkins
Luke Hopkins, a renowned hitting coach with a storied baseball career, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Next Level Baseball Academy. A graduate of St. Pius High School, Luke played third base and led his team to a state championship. During his senior year, he earned the prestigious Gatorade Player of the Year award after leading the state in home runs, RBIs, batting average, and slugging percentage.
Luke continued his baseball journey at New Mexico State University (2003-2006), where he set multiple freshman hitting records in home runs, RBIs, and batting average. His exceptional performance earned him All-American honors in 2005, highlighting his talent and work ethic.
In 2006, Luke was drafted in the 5th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Over two years in professional baseball, he demonstrated his skill and passion for the game before a career-ending injury prematurely ended his playing career.
With 15 years of coaching experience, Luke has channeled his love for baseball into teaching young players the art and mechanics of hitting. His hands-on approach and ability to break down complex techniques make him a favorite among players striving to elevate their game.
Luke, an Albuquerque native, has been married for two years and is proud to continue his family’s legacy in the city he calls home. His commitment to mentoring the next generation of hitters reflects his passion for the game and his dedication to shaping future stars.
